Image

Today, homeowners have many options when selecting countertops. The choices are between a natural or a manufactured material. Quartz is considered the new kid on the block when it comes to hard surfaces. Its popularity has increased in the last 10 years, giving the consumer many options to choose from. Its durability and selection surpass other surface materials.

What is Quartz?

Quartz is a manmade engineered material. It consists of 90% ground quartz (a natural hard mineral) with eight to 10 percent resins, polymers, and pigments. Because the producers control the manufacturing process, these countertops come in a wider variety of colors and designs than natural stone.

What are the Pros

Quartz countertops are virtually maintenance-free. Its nonporous surface makes for easy clean up and never has to sealed unlike natural stone. Quartz can be wiped down with any nonabrasive mild cleaner.

Quartz countertops are extremely hard and durable and are resistant to chipping, etching, and scratches. It is also nonporous and stain resistant.

Quartz slabs are available in a glossy sheen or honed finishes.

You have so many options! Unlike its natural competitor, Quartz offers more stylistic options. Samples are a true representation of the slab.

What are the Cons

The main caveat with Quartz is that it is somewhat heat resistant. Very high temperatures may cause the resin to discolor and dull. Excessive heat can cause damage to natural materials as well. No matter which countertop you choose, get into the habit of using hot pads and trivets.

When shopping for countertops, be sure to stop by our showroom. See what the craze is all about. Brooklyn Tile and Design offers a wide variety of Quartz options. We offer something for everyone.

BTD sponsored and hosted an informational booth to help raise funds for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society along with 25 other vendors and sponsors. The Block Party and Market Fundraiser was held on a beautiful tree lined street in Garden City, New York. There were over 150 smiling faces in attendance. Children as well as adults enjoyed the beautiful sunny day shopping, playing, eating, and petting adoptable puppies.
